This program is under development and subject to change at any time.
We are developing a new program of chapters which would provide field support from Transgender Michigan (TGMI) to the local transgender communities. Services provided by these chapters may include running local support groups, providing local advocacy, or other services to the local community.
Services provided by TGMI to the chapters may include:
- Provide a unified statewide voice for the transgender community of Michigan. (Grant makers are more likely to fund one unified organization rather than many small organizations.)
- Provide referrals to and from the chapter.
- Help advertise chapter events and activities.
- Run joint fundraising activities.
Since the the transgender communities are by definition non-conformist, a one size fits all model for our chapters would probably not work. There may up to three categories of chapters:
Licensed Chapters
- The chapter would be a fully independent organization licensed to call themselves a chapter of TGMI.
- The chapter would be responsible for their own governance and finance.
- The chapter would be required to meet minimum mission and conduct standards.
Subsidiary Chapters
- The chapter would be a wholly owned part of TGMI, operating as a committee of TGMI.
- TGMI would have full goverance and financal control, the chapter committee would run day to day operations of the chapter.
Franchise Chapters
- The chapter would be a hybrid sem-independent organization, someway between a licensed and a subsidiary chapter.
- The details would be spelled out in a franchise agreement made prior to establishing the chapter.
Affiliates
- Fully independent organizations we are actively working with, but do not have a formal chapter agreement with.
